BACON BUCKS BACK FOR 2009!
Seeking co-producers...
Bad News and Good News

Always Take the Bad News First...
’08 was a miserable year in many respects at Moon In The Pond. We didn’t have the compliment of full-year apprentices to maintain our continuity. The barn needed a new roof. With the lack of full-year apprentices, and the weather the garden didn’t get planted well, and was difficult to manage, and didn’t yield well. The walk-in freezer that replaced the five inefficient chest freezers cost more than anticipated. June was a weather disaster. When we finally got to haying, the yield was way off. Without an apprentice to manage restaurant sales, they were way down. The farm’s costs have continued unabated and many have increased. Fall and holiday sales were dismal. The bank account is bust.

On the Other Hand
Ironically, it was a great year for growth of the farm in mission capital. We’ve continued to educate and grow and learn. The reputation of Moon In The Pond as a forerunner in the world of innovative, sustainable agriculture and permaculture continues to blossom. That reputation has attracted three stellar apprentices and we are working hard on plans and projects for an amazing 2009 growing season.
We need your help.

Become a Co-producer
CSA, community supported agriculture, is a system whereby you help the farm by making a commitment (just like we farmers do) early in the year. By paying in advance you commit to buying a portion of your food from our farm and assist us in investing in the new season. You plant $, we plant your food. You become (in the words of Carlo Petrini) a co-producer.

Bacon Bucks
It’s easy. Our CSA is called “Bacon Bucks”—this is our 8th CSA year. We send you Moon In The Pond dollars, “Bacon Bucks,” for the amount of your ‘subscription.’ Spend them whenever you want, on whatever you want from the farm at any time of year, on whatever we have. No limits, no exceptions, no expiration. And as a "Bacon Bucks" member you get super special sales, discounts and freebies. (On your first visit you get a Bacon Bucks premium—see them listed below—as a thanks for becoming a supporter of the farm.)

Wide Array of Famous Meats
The great news is that we have a fantastic selection of our famous meats available now. (MITP on-line list) Our awesome hot dogs, ‘gourmet’ liverwurst, terrific sausages and cured meats, and, now in, a wide array of beef cuts are waiting to grace your table, warm your heart and belly, and provide you with real homegrown nutrition.

Beautiful Food by PayPal or Snail Mail
You can become a Bacon Bucks member on-line, through PayPal. (Help us now!) Or download our membeship form and mail it in or bring it by with a check. We have suggested membership levels, but join at whatever amount you’re comfortable in between. We know you want us to get through the winter and have great stuff (amazing, delicious, real, local, heirloom, lovingly grown, organic, health-giving, beautiful food) for you all through the coming year.

You’ll Get it Back in Spades!

Did I mention we’re struggling and really need the $$? Come see us. Eat well now. Eat well later. Help us now!
